THE ALMIGHTY ONE

Isa 40:31: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

My waiting on God will depend greatly on my faith of Who He is. It is as God reveals Himself as the Everlasting and Almighty One, and that revelation enters my soul, that the waiting will become the spontaneous expression of what I know Him to be…a God altogether worthy to be waited upon. Believers are to “mount up with wings as eagles;” I am to live a Heavenly life, in the very Presence and Love and Joy of God.

“Hast thou not known, hast thou not heard, that the Everlasting One…the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the Earth…fainteth not, neither is weary? So far from it, He giveth Power to the faint, and to them that have no might He increaseth strength. Even the youths…the glory of young men is in their strength…even the youths shall faint, and the young men shall utterly fall: all that is accounted strong with man shall come to nought. But they that wait on the Lord…on the Everlasting One, who fainteth not, neither is weary…they shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and, listen now, they shall be strong with the strength of God, and even as He, shall not be weary; they shall walk and, even as He, not faint.” Deut 32:11-12: As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: so the LORD alone did lead him. Isa 40:25-31: To whom then will you liken Me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold Who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: He calleth them all by names by the greatness of His might, for that He is strong in power; not one faileth. Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, my way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the Earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of His understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

I am born of God. I have the eagles wings. I may not have known it; I may not have used them; but God can and will teach me to use them. He stirs up my nest. He disappoints my hopes. He brings down my confidence. He makes me fear and tremble; as all my strength fails, I feel utterly weary and helpless. And all the while He is spreading His strong wings for me to rest my weakness on, and offering His Everlasting Creator-Strength to work in me. And all He asks is that I should sink down in my weariness and wait on Him; and allow Him in His Jehovah-Strength to carry as I ride upon the wings of His Omnipotence. I need only lift up my eyes, and behold my God! I need only listen to Him who saith that He fainteth not, neither is weary, Who promises that I too shall not faint nor be weary, Who asketh nought but this one thing…that I should wait on Him! With such a God…so mighty, so faithful, so tender… My soul, wait thou only upon God!

This is the blessed life of deep and intimate personal relationship with God: my waiting upon God…watching and waiting, looking off unto Him and listening for His voice…with an unwavering child-like trust and an unreserved child-like dependence, with a joyful expectation and an excited anticipation, for God to reveal to me His plans, His purposes, His will, a deeper revelation of Who He is, SO I MAY THEN RESPOND with an unquestioning child-like obedience to every leading and prompting of the Holy Spirit, cooperating with the power of His enabling grace Who works in me both to will and to do.  My soul, wait thou only upon God!
