Isa 30:18: And therefore will the LORD wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for Him.

“And therefore will the Lord wait, that He may be gracious unto you.” The vision of God waiting on me will give a new impulse and inspiration, an unspeakable confidence, that my waiting cannot be in vain. Yes…the God of the Universe waits for me with all of the longings of a father’s heart, that He may be gracious unto me. God is Love…an unceasing and inexpressible desire to communicate His own blessedness and goodness to all His creatures. He longs and delights to bless. He has inconceivably glorious purposes concerning every one of His children, by the Power of His Holy Spirit, to reveal in me His Love and Power. With every breath of my life of waiting on God, I need only let faith’s vision see my God waiting patiently for me. If my waiting seems long, and the answer remains hidden, be assured that my Father knows when I am spiritually ready to receive the blessing to my profit and His glory. Waiting in the sunshine of His Love is what will ripen the soul for His blessing. Waiting under the cloud of trial, that breaks forth in showers of blessing, is as needful. Be assured that if God waits longer than I could wish, it is only to make the blessing doubly precious.

Oftentimes, though, I am waiting for the gift and give no thought to the One on Whom I am waiting. The Giver is more than the gift. God Himself is more than the blessing; I need to learn to find my joy and my life in Himself alone. Oh, if God’s children only knew what a glorious God we have, and what a privilege it is to be linked in fellowship with Himself, then I would rejoice in Him more so than in His gifts and blessings! Then each one of His blessings and gifts would only serve to draw me ever deeper into my relationship of love and adoration to Him. And if His waiting be nothing but Goodness and Graciousness, I am to let mine be nothing but a rejoicing in that Goodness, and a confident expectancy of that Grace. I need only let every thought of waiting become to me simply the experience of unmingled and unutterable blessedness, because it brings me to a God who patiently waits…that He may make Himself known to me perfectly as the Gracious One: Therefore will the Lord wait, that He may be gracious unto me; blessed, then, are all they that wait for Him. What a dignity and blessedness to be attendants-in-waiting on the Everlasting God, ever on the watch for every indication of His will or favor, ever conscious of His nearness, His goodness, His grace! “The Lord is good to them that wait for Him.”

This is the blessed life of deep and intimate personal relationship with God: my waiting upon God…watching and waiting, looking off unto Him and listening for His voice…with an unwavering child-like trust and an unreserved child-like dependence, with a joyful expectation and an excited anticipation, for God to reveal to me His plans, His purposes, His will, a deeper revelation of Who He is, SO I MAY THEN RESPOND with an unquestioning child-like obedience to every leading and prompting of the Holy Spirit, cooperating with the power of His enabling grace Who works in me both to will and to do.  My soul, wait thou only upon God!
